So you want to be a scandinavian?

How to dress for a Scandinavian winter

About a month ago I got the following message on Facebook from an English friend of mine:

“We are probably moving to Stockholm/Uppsala in the next few months and I thought maybe you could give me some tips on how to dress for Nordic weather. What should I buy before I leave and what are the most important pieces of clothing and accessories that I will need to see me through the long winters. My wardrobe is pitifully in need of updating after spending the last 10 years living as a student so I really need to get buying some new pieces, so any recommendations about how to start putting together a nice wardrobe would be very handy too!”

Why I’m a Feminist

Maja explains why she's a feminist.

I’m a feminist…

  • Because people tell me I’m lucky I have a man who likes to cook.
  • Because I’m not even 30 and I have been asked about when I’m going to have children for nearly a decade.
  • Because I’m not even sure I want children, and I am scared shitless of your reaction if it turns out that I don’t.
  • Because people assume I’m bitter over the fact that my boyfriend has not yet proposed to me.
  • Because people assume I dream of my future wedding when in reality I dread the thought of the expense, the work and the attention.
  • Because you’re surprised to find out I’m into technology and gadgets.
  • Because when I tell you where I work, your reply is more often than not “oh, so you work in insert-entry-level-position-here?”

The Mulberry Bayswater: 3 1/2 years later

The Bayswater is one of Mulberry’s most iconic bags. According to Mulberry it “is a timeless and classic style that celebrates the very best of understated and exquisite leather craft. It proudly features the signature postman’s lock closure, and has a soft, brushed interior, showcasing the exceptional level of leather quality”. Sounds good, right? I bought mine, a black buffalo leather version, in the summer of 2011 from Mulberry’s flagship store on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris. It’s an investment piece, and if my calculations are right the price has increased by over 30% since 2011, so it’s even more of an investment if you were to buy one today. Which raises the question: is it worth it?

The Van der Spek planner

Blog post about my custom made Van der Spek planner, and some photos to show you how I set it up!

I recently mentioned that I had bought a new planner as a birthday present for myself, and here it is: a custom made leather planner from Van der Spek, a Dutch family company that makes and sells both ready-made and custom hand made leather goods. I discovered them through a Facebook group and fell completely head over heals for their planners, and in particular their ostrich-texture leather. I mean come on, look at that color! Teal ostrich? How completely ridiculous and beautiful is that?  I have already told you all about my love for leather planners and I didn’t need a new planner at all, but it was my birthday and the stars aligned, and after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing  I ended up ordering this little beauty.
