Merry Christmas

I know I am a bit late, not wishing my lovely readers a Merry Christmas until now! We’re even beyond fashionably late at this point, but let us forget about that tiny detail and eat another chocolate santa, yeah? I hope you had a wonderful holiday surrounded by loved ones. I have spent 9 days with my family and flew back to Bergen yesterday, poodle in tow. Tonight The Boyfriend and I are having a quiet and private New Year’s celebration, just the two of us, eating delicious food and watching movies. I was never big on New Year’s parties, so for me this is the perfect way to welcome the new year.

I wanted to share some photos of my Christmas week with you. As you can see they’re all taken inside, and this is because it was either hellishly cold outside our raining, or it was so slippery and icy I didn’t dare carry my camera around in fear of falling on my face. What I did do, however, was to read three books, watch a good handful of movies, teach my mom how to operate her new phone, and eat so much food and sweets I forgot what hunger feels like. I suspect a lot of you celebrated in much the same way!

As is every old, new, inherited, store-bought and home-made ornament you can find.

The knitted Santa family. I have such trouble explaining the difference between “Santa” and the Scandinavian “Nisse”, because they’re both the same thing and completely different at the same time. Wikipedia for Santa/Nisse trivia!

Christmas dinner for four – sheep ribs and pork ribs…

And last but not least: Our Christmas tree and Kanutten.

A big thank you to each and every one of you for sticking around and reading MajaHuse.com this year. See you all in 2013 – and have a wonderful, fabulous New Years Celebration!

I actually thought about your post on being an introvert during my New Year’s party! I was enjoying myself most of the time but suddenly I just snapped out of it and felt completely out of place and started asking myself why I’m not at home. I found some comfort in remembering I’m not the only one who feels this way – Maja would understand. Fortunately I got “back on track” in no time and had a very pleasant evening/night.

On the subject of parties, I find food to be an issue. Not because I’m picky, but simply because I eat frequently, every three hours or so. I get a bit confused when everybody seems completely fine with not eating for 6-7 (+) hours. Snacks or sweets just doesn’t do it for me – I need proper food. For instance, we were served dinner (shrimps and white bread) 19:30 and we were the first to leave at 02:00. I’m considering bringing energy bars/matpakke to the next party I’m attending – and eat in the bathroom or something so I don’t get unwanted attention. :’)

That is so cool to hear Gitte! I know the feeling of snapping out of things. It usually helps to sit down with someone I know well for a little while :)

Oh my god, yes, food! I have to eat every 3-4 hours or else will fall anywhere on the scale from “cognitively useless” to “downright unpleasant”. It is a problem every time I visit my family during holidays, because they can seriously just eat breakfast and dinner and be completely fueled by coffee in between. It is so difficult to make my eating schedule fit with other people’s! Most of the time I carry Nutrilett bars in my handbag, they’re a lifesaver. People think I’m dieting, but I am only trying to keep my sanity!
