February Purchases

February Purchases

First of all I have to thank you all for the tremendous support in my previous blog post, you truly are a magnificent bunch. I am doing well: I have managed to not completely sustain myself on Ben & Jerry’s alone (however tempting it might be) and I have only missed a few days of work. There has been a lot of napping and very little doing of much else, but I am doing better and that is what matters. It feels a bit strange to follow up the depression post with a shopping post, but hey, a blogger has got to do what a blogger has got to do. Here’s my February purchase roundup!

1. A trip to New York. That’s right, I brought out the big guns – The Boyfriend and I are traveling to New York this summer! Since we didn’t go on a proper holiday last year we have had some time to save up, and a few weeks ago we bought our tickets and booked our hotel. A few of my favorite bloggers have visited NY over the last few months, so I have been quietly making mental notes for things to see and places to visit. I may or may not have already made a packing list. I haven’t been to the U.S. since I was 6 years old, and I really can’t wait to see New York.

2. New reading glasses. This one is another item off my “need” list, and it was long overdue. I had such a hard time picking out a pair, but in the end I got the exact pair of RayBans pictured above. I absolutely love them, and I got the frames at 73% off!

3. A new beanie, because I was in Oslo and managed to spill makeup all over the beanie that I had brought with me. 70% off at H&M.

4. Black sequin dress. Speaking of Oslo: Oslo means meeting up with Maria, and meeting up with Maria means checking out a thrift store or two. I picked this really heavy sequin dress off the racks and presented it to Maria in a “oh my god, can you believe the weight of this thing” kind of manner, only to realize that it looked really good and that I should probably try it on. Needless to say I fell in love with it then and there. The cut is a lot like this vintage 90s dress, it is in perfect condition, and it really is very heavy. And sparkly. Don’t forget sparkly.

5. Leopard jacket, Asos. My “Screw this, I’m depressed and I want a leopard jacket”-jacket. It is the very same as the one Miss Sophie blogged about recently, and I got it at 70% off. I had been eyeing it since her blog post, and I can’t wait for the weather to warm up a bit so that I can wear it.

And that was it! I am very happy with the things that I acquired this month – two were well-planned “need” items, one was a spontaneous need, and the last two were pretty great impulse buys. Also, the fact that we are traveling to NY is a pretty good extra incentive to save my pennies for summer…

Any specific blogs that have been to NYC lately you’d recommend? I have been stalking the blogosphere for posts about New York ever since I booked my own trip, but it’s hard to find ones that aren’t either super touristy or all fashionista.. :)

Glad to hear that you are looking after yourself!

LOVING your Feb purchases post. How exciting that you are going to NYC, I’m so envious – I can’t wait to get back there at some point.

The sequin dress sounds really lovely, you should do an outfit post of it at some point, and um, that leather coat is absolutely gorgeous. Great buy, and on sale? Even better :)

I really should photograph the sequin dress, shouldn’t I? I will keep it on my to-do list for when the mood strikes!
We really wanted to stay in NY for 10 days, and thankfully our budget allowed us to stay for that long. We will have plenty of time to look around and soak up the city – although I am a teensy bit worried about the fact that it will be the warmest time of the year :)

Yay, NYC! :D After Disneyland and my parents’ during Christmas it’s my happiest place on Earth.

I’m going in October for New York Comic-Con, and will actually be staying at Distrikt Hotel as well, so I hope it’s as good as everyone says it is. :)

If no one else has mentioned it yet, I recommend a visit to Dylan’s Candy Bar. Unless you hate candy, of course. But even if you do I think Dylan’s might change that.

I was also going to recommend visiting Filene’s Basement, but it seems they’re closed for now at least… If they’re open again by the time you get there, it’s worth a visit.

    • Maja says:

Oh, thank you for suggesting Dylan’s Candy Bar! It sounds familiar, I think I might have heard about it somewhere. And I do love candy!
Comic-Con sounds like so much fun! As an ex WoW addict I’d pick Blizzcon for my nerdy convention needs (like I’d ever get tickets), but Comic-Con sounds awesome too. I’d love to run around and photograph everyone’s costumes :)

i´ve started them too, this time even with a fancy polyvoreset like yours :’D
I am glad you are getting better. sometimes i am wondering if i am gettig depressed or if i am just a pussy that can´t handle a lillte stress. i found your post very helpful so thank you.
oh and i totally envy you for your ny trip!!

    • Maja says:

Dearest JuJu, if you think you are getting depressed I strongly urge you to go see your doctor. Nip it in the bud, it is so much better than letting time pass and getting worse. I waited for way too long before I saw a doctor for the first time, and I can’t help but think of all the time that passed where I could have felt so much better than I did.

If you’re a bit wary there are a ton of depression checklists online, such as this one: http://www.here4hope.org/RESOURCES/SAVE%20Depression%20Info.pdf :)

ps. Du har blitt utfordret på bloggen min:)

    • Maja says:

Jeg har også blitt kjempeglad i leopardjakken, og at den bare kostet rudnt 200,- var heller ikke feil!
Hihi, det er alltid gøy å bli utfordret! Jeg tar den på strak arm ;)
