Week in instagrams

I had a week in December where I was so good at taking snapshots with my phone and thought “Hey, I should make this a weekly blog post!”. As you can probably tell I forgot all about it, but I think it is about time to revive that idea, don´t you? Now, these aren´t all actual instagrams – I simply don´t own an iPhone, but I borrow them from work from time to time because I love Instagram so much. I´m hoping the app will be released for Android soon so that I don´t have to be the giant nerd who carries two phones around. Anyway, these are this week´s snapshots!

1. Blue sparkly nails and my semi-new ring that I bought on eBay. The stone is a labradorite and it looks black, but turns blue and green depending on the light. I love it!

2. Cool-looking graffiti around the corner from where I live.

3. Drooling over the packaging for the new LG for Prada phone. I haven´t tried to actual phone, but I do love looking at the packaging!

4. My new foxy pal, also from eBay.

5. My calendar on Valentine´s Day.

6. A colleague gave me an “emergency KitKat” wrapped in post-its to keep on my desk. I have the best colleagues!

7. My studded bracelet, because I sometimes like to pretend that I am tough. I´m not.

8. The latest Elle Collections. I love it so so much, and I have collected every issue since 2008.

9. Getting ready for a post-workout manicure – painting my nails after a good workout has become somewhat of a ritual for me :)

And that was it! I realize I am a wee bit early seeing as the week technically isn´t over yet, but hey, at least my work week is. Oh, and if you´d like to follow me on Instagram my account is maja_piraja. Have a wonderful weekend!

Forty fast facts

I haven´t had a lot of time to blog over the last week and a half, so I am breaking the silence with a list post stolen from Maria. When you are done reading it you can skip on over to my brand spanking new portfolio section if you´d like. It isn´t perfect, but it´s a start!

1. How old will you be in five years? Thirty-one.

2. With whom did you spend at least two hours today? My wonderful colleagues.

3. How tall are you? 180 centimeters, or 5´11″

4. What was the last movie you saw? Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. It wasn´t very good.

5. Who did you call most recently? My gym to let them know I couldn´t make it to the classes I had booked for today. I donated blood yesterday and just didn´t have the energy to work out.

6.What did it say in the last SMS you got? It was a summary of the contents of my bank accounts, so I am going to keep that a secret!

7. Do you prefer calling or texting? Texting. I worked in a call center for more than 2 years and I´m still not able to chat on the phone just for fun with anyone other than my parents. I have filled up my phone-chatting quota for a lifetime!

8. Are your parents together or split up? Still together.

9. When did you last see your parents? On the 27th of December.

10. What colour are your eyes? Light blue.

11. When did you wake up today? I get up at 6:30 on weekdays.

12. What’s your favourite place? My bed on a Saturday morning, my parents´ veranda on a warm summer day, or just about anywhere if the company is good.

13. Where do you think you’ll be in ten years? I don´t know, and I prefer not to know. This does not mean that I don´t have goals, it just means that I would like to be open to any possibilities that might come my way.

14. What used to scare you most as a child? Santa, my plush orangutan and “Rädda Joppe, död eller levande“, a Swedish TV-show for children. Rädda Joppe messed me up!

15. Lately, what made you laugh uncontrollably? I think it might have been Karl Pilkington.

16. What do you wear to bed? That´s none of your business!

17. Where have you lived? Molde and Bergen.

18. Do you prefer shoes, socks or bare feet? I love thick, warm socks. Marius actually bought me another pair of my favorite socks the other day – I might have squealed and jumped up and down. And clapped my hands.

19. Are you a social person? I am, but I do need alone time in other to collect my thoughts and unwind, probably a little bit more than the average person. I wouldn´t make a very good socialite.

20. Favourite ice cream? Mövenpick Swiss Chocolate, oh god. Just writing this made me send Marius out to get some.

21. Do you like Chinese food? Anything Chinese that is deep-fried in batter is like crack to me and I am trying to cut down on it.

22. Do you like coffee? Yes, but I don´t drink it every day, I´m much more of a tea girl. I treat myself to a double latté once in a while.

23. Do you sleep in a special way? Not really. But if you´re going to share a bed with me you better be prepared to defend your space, because I will squeeze you out and steal your duvet if you let me!

24. Do you know how to play poker? Nope.

25. Do you want kids? Right now? No. Later? Who knows.

26. Have you ever been in an ambulance? Never!

27. Do you prefer the ocean or a pool? The ocean.

28. On what do you spend the most money? Besides the boring things like rent and bills and food? I´m tempted to say clothes and accessories, but I think I spend at least an equal amount on gadgets.

29. What’s your favourite TV show? These days it is Game of Thrones – I am eagerly awaiting season 2, and can´t wait to watch season 1 on Bluray.

30. Who’s the funniest person you know? This one is tough! I have a handful of really funny co-workers, actually. I´m not going to name names, but if you´ve ever seen me wipe away runny mascara from laughing then you know who you are.

31. What’s your ring tone? A standard HTC ringtone. I can´t have a song as my ringtone, because then I won´t recognize it as my phone, I´ll think it´s the radio!

32. Do you have any garments from when you were a kid? Seeing as I have a younger sister I am pretty sure a lot of it was passed down to her and to our younger cousins, but I think my mom might have saved some of it. She loves to donate things to the salvation army though, so you never know :)

33. What thing do you have closest to you now that’s red? A book on graphic design.

34. Do you flirt a lot? Most of the time I have no idea if what I am doing is regarded as flirting or just being nice. I think you´ll have to define flirting before I can answer that!

35. Do you know how to change the tires on a car?  I can´t say I´ve done it, but I´m sure I could if supervised.. Maybe?

36. What was the last book you read? I am currently on the last pages of A Game of Thrones, the last book I finished was The Gift of Fear.

37. Do you read the paper? Online, yes. A couple of them.

38. Do you sing in the car? I don´t have a car, but I sing a lot in my living room!

39. Can you tango? I cant dance my way out of a paper bag.

40. Are you happy? Yes I am :)

Snow day

Before I officially start this post I want to say HI to my new followers! Link love from the lovely Sukkerspinneriet gave me some new followers on Bloglovin´ over the weekend, which made me so so happy. I have been at a standstill for a while, so this was a wonderful surprise :)

Today was a Sunday with exceptionally pleasant weather, and when this occurs there is only one thing to do – put on the thermal underwear (sexy and I know it) and go outside. There is no snow in the city at the moment, but once we got higher up in the hills above Bergen there was ice, and then ice and a little bit of snow, and then some more snow…

There hasn´t been a whole lot of snow this winter, so I´m making sure to photograph snow like a madwoman whenever I get the chance. Despite the seemingly solitary mood of the photos I can tell you that we were basically walking in queue on the whole way there – dogs, kids, parents, grandparents, tourists – everyone loves a snow day, I suppose. The last time we walked up there we saw someone walking their cat on a leash. Cat on a leash on a mountain! I much prefer the tiny dogs in silly sweaters, but I´m too much of a wuss to photograph them. Next time I´m photographing the dogs in sweaters, I promise!

Sunday’s hike in photos

When Marius and I went hiking on Sunday I brought my brand new Canon s100 with me, and I can tell that this baby and I are going to have a long and happy relationship. Of course, it will never quite measure up to my DSLR, but as far as point-and-shoots go? It is fantastic.  I’m in love. She’s going to live in my pocket, handbag, backpack, wherever. She will never leave my side. There is something so magical about being able to capture the world exactly how it is that you see it, and I really want to get even better at it.

New Year, New Home

If you are reading this it means you have found your way over to my new website. Thank you so much for stopping by, I sincerely hope you will find yourself at home here. Things are not 100% ready yet, but I couldn´t help but want to move on January 1st – New year, new website, new opportunities. I thought it would be nice to kick off the new year with a little summary of the old one, so here is a retrospect of my 2011.

January started with cold and snow, a perfect winter wonderland. I was sick for most of the month, so it was a very slow-paced start of the new year, but I eventually found my footing again.

In February I spontaneously visited Maria of Lost in a Spotless Mind. I needed a change of scenery, and a weekend of movies, vintage shopping, cakes and general girlyness with her and her sister Cookie did just the trick.

In March I photographed Pete Doherty, got a visit from my sister, and welcomed the arrival of spring.

In April a friend took me to a dog show, and I suppressed my allergies in order to admire the spectacle and the wonderful dogs and puppies…

I also went home to visit my family for a wonderfully quiet Easter weekend.

In May we got dressed up for the Norwegian national day, I read a lot of magazines, and we enjoyed the fact that summer had finally arrived in Bergen.

In June we took more walks, and got sunburned to boot. I watched a lot of Audrey Hepburn movies, fell head over heels for a bag, and bought a Kindle. I suspect I might have spent the rest of the month reading books.

In July I documented my boyfriend´s weight loss, paid close attention to my new pigeon neighbors, and visited Maria in Oslo once again. On July 22nd, only a week after I left Oslo, the city was struck by a terrorist attack.

In August Marius and I traveled to Paris to celebrate our 10 year anniversary as a couple. We had such a great time, and it really left me in a more or less permanent state of wanderlust. I can´t wait to see where we end up next.

When we returned from Paris we traveled home to visit both our families and to enjoy the last gray days of summer.

Then came September. I got to visit my dad´s workplace: an oil platform way out into the Norwegian Sea. On my way home I stopped by Molde to visit my mom again, and we picked the last bouquet of flowers for the year.

October started with an indian summer. and the days were warmer and nicer than they had been during most of the actual summer months. Maria came to visit later in the month, and she let loose her fashion consultant skills on my poor unsuspecting closet.

In November the highlight was when my family came to visit for a belated birthday celebration of both me and my dad. There was good food, good company, and even a bit of touristy sightseeing.

And then, last but not least, there´s December. In December we went for a short trip to Oslo and enjoyed a few short days where the snow turned Bergen into Christmas Town. My Christmas Eve was spent at home with my family, and we had a wonderful time.

I hope your 2011 has been as good (if not better) as mine has been. Of course there have a few bumps in the road along the way, but all in all it has left me with a clear feeling of things moving forward. I am going to do my absolute best to bring that feeling with me all the way into 2012.
