A typical January Sunday

Winters in western Norway are not as snowy and white as the postcards would have you believe – in fact, they’re rather wet! This Sunday, however, there was a brief break between the showers and I took The Poodle and my camera out for a walk around my tiny city. I love how even the most event-free Sunday can still bring a nice shot or two, even though it was a bit hard to hold the camera steady with a tiny dog pulling me in every direction. I did my best!

Torgallmenningen

Candy colored houses

Greenhouse

Stairs

Park

Lights

Nygardshoyden

I tend to take the most photographs during spring and summer, but ultimately it is the rain and the fog that are the characteristic features of Bergen. I always feel so dishonest when I look through my photo folders and every photo is from a perfect sunny day, but then again – that’s life I guess, just like there are no bad hair days on Facebook ;)

    It’s beautiful! :-)

I often curse western Norway for the weather, but the truth is I would really miss it if I were to move away. It certainly has its charm, and I love to be just a few minutes away from walking up a mountain :)

Bergen looks beautiful. Cities built right up against nature have such an allure.

I think it would be a real challenge for me to live in a city that wasn’t close to nature, I’ve had ocean and mountains around me all my life :)

I like how colourful the houses are! It’s always incredible to see cities/towns from around the world, so similar yet so different…

I know, right? They all have the same basic structure, but the devil is in the details. I love to study the architecture whenever I visit a new city :)

Thank you for the Bergen photos, I have enjoyed the previous ones too. I have friends there & love the city! Always rainy (when I’m there) but the rainclouds against mountainsides looks so dramatic and cool!

Such charming photos. You’ve reminded me that I should wander around more with my camera.

It is funny, no matter how boring one’s everyday surroundings seem they always get a little bit more interesting when you’ve brought a camera. I know I start seeing things a little differently though a lens :)

Love the photos even if they are kinda gloomy. But its gloomy everywhere in the Northern hemisphere anyway.

    • Maja says:

Thanks Joy! The gloomy atmosphere is kind of unavoidable around these parts. There’s no coincidence that one of my country’s biggest exports is black metal – it is a perfectly natural consequence of our surroundings ;)
